Flood

Spring is here and the snow has begun to melt. The Southern Pack couldn't have been happier to have the warmth of spring back. But the snow is melting too fast, causing floods. It's only a matter of time before the water rises too high....

[Phenomenon]

Phenomenon peered out of her den, sweeping her tail back to keep Nightwind and Adelulf from running out and falling into the sweeping waters. Worry pricked her fur, and Phenomenon turned around in the den. "Wow, Saber was right. This is a very roomy den." she thought, she could turn fully around, Saber could still nap or whatever he's doing, and the pup's could still playfight. Phenomenon prodded Saber, "Saber! The water's rising really fast! Should we move the pack to the winter den's further up?"

[Sock]

Sock splashed through the shallow water. The water would the next morning, when the snow melted. At this rate, the whole pack would be flooded out of their home. "Nonny!" she called as she ran to the alpha's den.

[Phenomenon]

"Sock! Get out of the water! There's an undertow current strong enough to sweep a grizzly off its feet in some places!" cried Phenomenon, stepping out of her den. SPLOOSH! Phenomenon leaped back in horror. Water had reached her den! Phenomenon instantly felt the urge of a motherly protection of her pup's, her mate, her friends, and her pack sweep through her, but she was helpless until Saber made his decision.

[Sock]

Sock hopped into the den. The twilight glittered off the surface of the water. "Nonny, don't worry," she barked. "We're safe until morning."

[Gracesong]

"I'll get Saber," Gracesong appeared next to Nonny, "You worry about your pups."

[Sock]

Sock nodded to Gracesong. "She's right Phenomenon."

[Gracesong]

"I can get him up," Gracesong smiled slyly.

[Sock]

Sock smiled. She had been surprised at the pack's kindness towards her when she first joined. And they still surprised her. She had heard omegas were looked down upon. Sock sighed and looked out into the water. It was about as high as her dew claw.

[Saber]

Saber jumped up, "Get out of here! get Illusion, Nightwind, Ghost, and Adelulf out, and all the pups, Sock and Nonny! I'll try and make the camp so it'll survive the flood. GO!" Saber barked out orders, moving nests up higher, etc.

[Gracesong]

"What do I do?" Gracesong asked curiously.

[Sock]

Sock screeched and bounded out of the den causing a large splash. She gazed around the still camp. The ripple of water was the only movement. She trudged through the water until she came to upward slope. Sock whimpered and started to dig at it.

[Phenomenon]

"Don't get hurt. Leave the camp it the water get's too deep." Phenomenon growled softly, then scooped Adelufl up in her jaws, and let Nightwind scrabbel up her back. Phenomenon fled out of the den, and splashed into the water, and slogged across the expance of open waters. Phenomeon climbed into a ridge where the rabbit warren's were, then she dropped her pups. "Stay here!" Phenomenon growled, feeling a ting of guilt for being so sharp. Then she nuzzled them, and plunged back into the icey waters, with now a strong tugging current.

[Sock]

Sock broke through the dirt of the frosty slope, leaking out a trickle of water. Sock yelped and jumped back. "That isn't going to help..." she commented.


[Phenomenon. You know the water isn't even that high yet? Right?]

[Phenomenon]

~Yep. But it's deep enough to pull small puppies away if there not that carefull, so that why Phenomenon put the pups up high. And Even if the water is an inch deep or two, and it's strong enough to pull a car off a road.. So yup!~

[Sock]

Oh..]

Sock barked to Phenomenon. "Phenomenon! I.. accidentally let more water in!"

[Phenomenon]

~hah! Eveyday you learn something new!~

"It's ok. The flood water will rise, and then fall but the camp might be ruined but we can rebuilt it just like our ancestors did!: Phenomeon comforted her, then sighed as the last pups were safelt tucked away. "WHy don't you come with me and help take care of the pups while there mothers search for resting dens?"

[Sock]

Sock cocked her head. "But.. the snow.. I heard reports.. There is still tons out there! The water can't evaporate overnight!" she snapped.

[Phenomenon]

"Then it's an order!" Phenomenon snapped, baring her teeth, and then she relaxed and growled "You need to rest, you can run through water aall day. I order you to finish up your current report, then head back to the rabbit warrens." Phenomenon turned back curtly and headed to find shelter with the other females while they took care of the pups.

[Sock]

Sock narrowed her eyes and stalked back to the slope. "Freakin' alphas..! Think they're so powerful..!" she growled under her breath. She bounded up the slope with difficulty. She looked out into the territory. There were still piles of snow and slush. She sighed and headed back to the rabbit warrens.

[Phenomenon]

Phenomenon flicked her ear's as she heard Sock's approach. "I'm sorry for getting so snappy with you!" Phenomenon aplogized, then she gave her a chunck of rabbit meat. "Most of the pup's re too young to eat solid food, and there mothers have already eaten. So you were the only pack member who hasn't eaten. So, eat something if you want and then get some rest." Phenomenon turned and padded away to her pups.

[Sock]

Sock mumbled, "Of course I'm the last to eat..." She glanced over at the pile of meat. She could exchange Phenomenon's meat for one of the few squirrels there. Or a ruffled blackbird.

[Gracesong]

Gracesong walked over with a fish, "Oh...They must have eaten...Do you want this, Sock?"

[Sock]

Sock shook her head. "No thanks.. I'll just eat this rabbit..." she barked, sitting down on the raised ground. She bit deep into the rabbit meat and licked her lips.

[Saber]

"Surely not all Alpha's are that bad?" Saber asked as he stood next to Sock.
